Church Planter - North India
After finishing his theological studies at a seminary in India, Silas moved to a village in North India as a church planter. On top of pastoring the congregation and evangelism in the village, Silas also has a burden for training men for the ministry, and has already sent out several men to plant churches in other parts of North India.
Testimony of Conversion
My name is Silas M. I am from a Christian family and was raised in a village in North India. A pastor used to come to my village three times a year to pray with people in the village. He usually came on Christmas, on Easter, and then he would come whenever someone in the village died.
Later, a missionary came from South India to live in my village. He worked mostly with the children, and once a week I would go with the other children to join the children’s club. We were excited to go and hear about Jesus through the songs we sang and through Bible stories. Eventually, this missionary began a children’s home in the village.
I studied in school until the 10th grade, and even though we had devotionals in the morning and the evening at the children’s home, where we would read from the Bible and learn about the true God, I was still living like a worldly man. We would go to Sunday service every week at the church of the missionary, but my life was still entirely wrong. I used to do all kinds of bad things and was always fighting with other boys, drinking, and smoking. I was living a worldly life.
One day, the pastor was preaching from 1 John 5:11-12. He told us that God gives eternal life, and that eternal life is found only in His Son. It was then that I realized that I was without Christ and without life. This verse spoke to my heart, convincing me of my need for Jesus Christ. It was then that I knew that He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and I repented and trusted in Christ as my Savior. I asked Him to forgive my sins, and He gave me a real peace and joy that I had never experienced in my life. This happened in 1981.
Shortly after this I got the privilege to work with a missionary for one year in 1983. During this time I participated in evangelistic work with him, and then afterwards I returned to the children’s home. Once I had returned, the warden of the home asked me to go to Bible school. After studying and training for two years, I became the leader of an evangelistic team in different parts of India. During this time, we preached to Gospel to many people who responded violently, and many times we were beaten very badly in different cities because of the message of the Gospel.
From 1988 to 1991 I did my theological study in a seminary, and once I had graduated, and after much prayer, I went to a village in North India to begin doing ministry there. I plan to bring more people into the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ; those that are still walking in darkness. Where we are living, there are not many jobs, and many people are leaving because they cannot support themselves here. So, remember me in your prayers, that I may be used to win many souls for Christ. May God bless you.
