January 2017 Visit to Kampala, Uganda

Posted February 17, 2017  by: S. R. |0 Comments

In January 2017, I had the privilege of visiting our missionary, Bill Issa, and his family in Kampala, Uganda. Kampala and the immediately surrounding area have a population of almost 4 million, and is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. This was my first visit to Uganda, and I would have to rate it fairly high among the African countries I have visited in terms of friendliness and development. I arrived late Saturday night, and Sunday morning joined Bill’s church, Reconciliation... Keep Reading

Electronic Tools for Zambian Pastors

Posted November 17, 2016  by: S. R. |0 Comments

Through the generosity of our donors, HeartCry is able to equip missionary pastors with much-needed tools to strengthen their ministry.  Recently, we purchased laptops and cameras for four pastors in Zambia.  In addition, Pastor John Skaggs and Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Globe, Arizona wanted to do something special for our missionaries.  They purchased dozens of copies of the Bible-study software, Online Bible, for distribution to our indigenous pastors.  We are grate... The Best Reason to Lose a Missionary

Andrew Z_profileAfter December 2016, HeartCry will end support for missionary pastor Andrew Zekveld. If this statement stood alone, thoughts might tend toward the negative: ‘Why is HeartCry ending his support? What has he done?’ Actually, in this case, ending support for Andrew is one of the most positive and encouraging steps we can take. It... Keep Reading

Theological Training Done Well in Zambia

Posted August 31, 2016  by: S. R. |0 Comments

“Would HeartCry consider helping fund another ministerial college in Zambia?” This was the question posed to me by Pastor Conrad Mbewe during my January visit to Zambia. We were already partnering with Lusaka Ministerial College in their training of low-income pastors in the capital city and rural Lozi pastors in Western Province. Now Pastor Conrad was asking us to consider an additional partnership with Copperbelt Ministerial College in Ndola. Of course, HeartCry’s financial ... Keep Reading

Bloemfontein is the capital city of Free State Province as well as the judicial capital of South Africa. Richard Raven and his family are working there to establish Hope Bible Church. Joyce and I were blessed to spend 3 very busy days of sweet fellowship in the Raven home. Saturday morning started early as some of the young men met with Richard for a book study. T... Keep Reading

January 2016 Trip - Destination 4: Lusaka, Zambia

Posted February 24, 2016  by: S. R. |0 Comments

On Sunday, January 24, we visited two church plants in the Lusaka area. In the morning, we visited Pastor Wege Sinyangwe, who is planting a vernacular-speaking church in Chilanga, a town just south of Lusaka. The schoolroom where they meet was filled with a healthy mix of men, women, young people, and children. The schoolroom was also filled with Wege’s booming voice as he preached from the book of Acts with great conviction and enthusiasm. Though the singing and preaching was primarily in... Keep Reading

During the three years that Joyce and I lived in southern and western Zambia, we regularly heard about the Copperbelt region of northern Zambia, but we never made it north of Lusaka. At last, we finally were able to visit there. As the name suggests, this is where most of the copper mining in Zambia is located. The region is currently experiencing economic hardship, but has known periods of prosperity in the past. The Reformed Baptist movement has a long history in cities such as Chingola, Kitwe... Our second stop was to visit Sam and Melly Oluoch and Grace Baptist Church in Kisumu, Kenya. Kisumu is the third largest city in Kenya, with a population of over 400,000. It is located just a few miles south of the equator, where the mountains meet Lake Victoria. Sadly, we reached Kisumu on Sunday evening too late to hear Brother Sam preach, but we were able to enjoy some time fellowshipping with the church after the evening meeting. On Monday, we were able to meet with all of the missionaries ... Keep Reading

Africa Coordinator News: Transitioning In

Now that Forrest has posted his ‘farewell’ to the Africa Blog, I suppose it is time for me to make introductions. For those who have followed HeartCry for some time, introductions are not necessary, but for the rest I will provide some background. I first came to HeartCry in 2008, as the initial step in going as a missionary to the Lozi people of Western Zambia. During the year-long planning and preparation phase, I served as the Coordinator for Africa. In 2009, my brother, Shannon,... Keep Reading

This opportunity has been a truly blessed one, and I would not trade it for anything. My trip to Zambia and Ethiopia just over a year ago was of great value to me. I got to see the vision ... Dear friends, We thank God for the many things He is doing among us here in Kenya: 1. Sam’s wife Jacqueline is not frequent in coming to church on Sundays, and my wife Melly and other ladies in the church have been encouraging her to consider this as they share the Gospel with her. Work Among the Lozi

A few years ago, HeartCry sent out the only western missionaries we have worked with to the Lozi people in the Western Province of Zambia. The Reece brothers lived and worked among the Lozi for approximately three years before being led to return to the U.S. Their involvement with this rural tribe helped to fuel a desire in Kabwata Baptist to reach out to this region with church planting efforts. The following is from a June 2013 email from Pastor Conrad Mbewe on what is currently happening in the Western Province.... Keep Reading
